KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has rejected the United Nations’ latest report on Afghanistan, describing it as ‘inaccurate’ and ‘intended for propaganda purposes.’
UN Secretary-General António Guterres submitted the report to the Security Council three two days ago (June 9). It covers Afghanistan’s political, economic, and security developments from February 1 to the end of April this year.
According to the report, security incidents in Afghanistan increased by three percent compared to the same period last year.
In response, IEA chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on his official X account that the report contains false information and seems designed to stir concerns about the country’s current situation.
“We reject this report and consider it to be based on misinformation and prepared for propaganda purposes. Security in Afghanistan is now better than ever and people are living in peace,” Mujahid said.
He added that the UN and similar institutions continued to portray a distorted image of Afghanistan—ignoring progress, exaggerating minor incidents and attempting to depict a worsening situation.
Mujahid also criticised the report for categorising criminal acts as security-related incidents, noting that such crimes occur more frequently in other countries than in Afghanistan.
He believed the Afghan people would not be swayed by the narrative of foreign entities with malicious intent. “Afghanistan is more secure than ever, and people are living peacefully under the Islamic system,” he said.
He further noted that during the recent Eid al-Adha holidays, more than two million Afghans travelled domestically for tourism—proof, he said, of the country’s stability, improved security, and the public’s sense of tranquility.
