KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 10 people have been killed and nine others injured after a five-storey building collapsed in Karachi, Pakistan, according to media reports.
The incident occurred on Friday in the Lyari area of Karachi, with Dawn quoting officials from the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT).
Data from the Civil Hospital Karachi, reviewed by Dawn.com, confirmed that nine bodies were brought to the hospital, while one additional person died during treatment.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed also confirmed the death toll.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, speaking to reporters at the scene, called on the government to take urgent action.
He highlighted that around 434 buildings in Karachi’s Old City area have been declared “dangerous” by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
The authority’s statement also listed a total of 588 such hazardous buildings across Karachi.
