KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation on Tuesday selected 54 athletes in different weight categories for the national bodybuilding and fitness team after competitions in Kabul.
The competitions to select the best athletes for the national team began in Kabul three days ago and wrapped up today.
Speaking at a ceremony here, Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of the Olympic, Physical Training and Sports, said athletes from different provinces participated in the competitions.
He said achievements in the field of sports were increasing day by day and said that they were trying to provide opportunities to athletes in various fields. He assured the athletes that he would cooperate and support them.
At the ceremony, Bawar Hotak, the head of the Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, said that 256 athletes from 23 provinces participated in the 18th round of selection competitions for the national team.
He added that 27 athletes in nine different weight categories were selected for the national side in the bodybuilding section and 27 athletes in the sports physique section.
He said the Asian Games will be held in Thailand after some time and the same athletes from Afghanistan would participate in different categories.
Wahidullah Seddiqi, who won first place in the 175 cm height category in the fitness section of these competitions, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had prepared fully and was happy to win first place.
He hoped to participate in international competitions and bring laurels home.
He asked the authorities to cooperate with bodybuilding and fitness athletes in various fields and provide them with opportunities to participate in international competitions.
Similarly, another athlete, Wais Noori, who won first place in the 65-kilogram weight category in the bodybuilding section of these competitions, said that he had been practicing ahead of the competitions for the past two months and was able to win first place.
He also requested the officials of the National Olympic Committee and the Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation to support athletes.
