Cycling qualifying competition begins in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): A cycling qualifying competition, featuring 70 athletes has begun in Kabul, the National Cycling Federation said on Thursday.

NCF acting director Syed Nabiullah Sadat told Pajhwok Afghan News 70 athletes from Kabul were participating in the competitions. The race started from the National Olympic Committee to the Darul Aman Palace.

He said the competition was being held to find best athletes for the national cycling competitions, for which 25 athletes would be selected.

According to him, the selection competitions would be held in the country in about 20 days.

Mohammad Sharif, a participant, told Pajhwok he has been preparing for these competitions for the past three months and hoped to make it to the national competitions.

“Holding such competitions is very important for the development of the sport of cycling and the discovery of new talent,” he added.

Mohammad Sharif asked the National Olympic Committee to pay more attention to the cycling sector and organize other similar competitions.

Shafiq Azizi, another participant, said he was happy that such competitions were being held.
