KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance on Thursday reported a 13.5 percent increase in exports and a 24.5 percent rise in transit volume during the first five months of the current solar year, compared to the same period last year.

In a statement, the ministry attributed the growth to enhanced facilities and reforms at customs offices across the country. As a result, both exports and foreign transit through Afghanistan’s customs points saw significant increases in the first five months of 1404, compared to the same timeframe in 1403.

According to the ministry, 43,115 export shipments were recorded in the first five months of 1403, rising to 48,928 in the same period of 1404 — a 13.5 percent increase.

In terms of foreign transit, 13,198 shipments passed through the country during the first five months of 1404, up from 10,601 in the corresponding period last year — an increase of 24.5 percent.

The ministry noted that most exports were sent to Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

Transit shipments primarily passed through Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iran.
