Large oil storage facilities being built at Herat railway station

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work on large oil storage facilities has been launched at the Rozanak railway station to facilitate unloading and distribution of petroleum products in western Herat province.

Syed Hafizullah Asim, head of Emirati Oil and Gas Company, said the first phase of the project includes storage capacity for 1,000 tons of diesel and petrol, with plans to expand the capacity several times in the future.

He said that with the establishment of these facilities, the process of transporting and storing petroleum products in Herat will become easier, ensuring timely fuel supply for factories, vehicles, and residents.

In the past week, around 20 wagons of petroleum products arrived in Afghanistan through the Khawaf–Herat railway line, and another 180 wagons are expected in the next few days.

Meanwhile, local residents welcomed the start of fuel imports via the railway and, said it could help reduce fuel prices and prevent hoarding in the market.

Some traders described the use of the Khawaf–Herat railway for fuel transportation as a significant step toward strengthening Afghanistan–Iran economic ties, adding that trade via this route would increase commercial exchange, reduce transport costs, and speed up the fuel distribution process across the country.
