Over 12,600 Afghan refugees return from Iran, Pakistan in a single day

KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 12,666 Afghan refugees have been forcibly deported from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan, an official said on Monday.

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared the High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues report on his X handle, showing that 2,194 families, comprising 12,666 individuals, returned to the country on Sunday.

He said the returnees entered Afghanistan through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat, Pul-i-Abresham in Nimroz, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Bahramcha in Helmand and the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar.

Fitrat noted that 1,609 returnee families (10,553 individuals) had been transported to their home areas, while 1,966 others received humanitarian assistance.

He added that a total of 1,665 SIM cards were distributed among the returning refugees by telecommunication firms.

On Saturday, nearly 12,500 Afghan refugees returned to the country after being forcibly repatriated from Iran and Pakistan.
