KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammad Naeem says the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is in contact with intermediary countries and ready to engage in negotiations with neighbouring Pakistan through diplomacy and understanding.
He said this at a meeting with representatives of diplomatic missions in Kabul about the recent talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan held in Istanbul, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.
He said the main challenge during the Istanbul discussions was that the Pakistani delegation made unrealistic and impractical demands.
He added that blaming Afghanistan for all security issues in Pakistan indicated certain circles within Pakistan’s military establishment do not wish bilateral issues to be resolved through dialogue.
He said the irresponsible and uncooperative attitude of the Pakistani side prevented any outcome from the third round of negotiations, despite the IEA’s goodwill and the mediators’ efforts.
Dr. Naeem reaffirmed that IEA remained in contact with intermediary countries and was prepared to resume dialogue once Pakistan demonstrated sincerity and adopted a realistic and reasonable approach to resolving issues through diplomacy and mutual understanding.
