Trump meets with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa

KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at the White House, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to BBC Persian, following the meeting, Syria announced its decision to join the international coalition against the Islamic State (Daesh).

Trump told media: “We want to see Syria become a very successful country, and I believe this leader can make it happen.”

Without providing further details, he explained that “more announcements are on the way.”

Meanwhile, the US Department of the Treasury has announced that sanctions on Syria have been suspended for 180 days (six months).

Ahmad Al-Shar’a is the first Syrian president to visit the White House since the country’s independence nearly 80 years ago.
