11 killed, 12 missing in Indonesia landslide

KABUL (Pajhwok): Indonesia’s disaster management agency says a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Central Java province has killed nearly a dozen people.

According to a Reuters report, another 12 people remain missing and rescue teams are searching for them.

Abdul Muhari, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Agency, said: “Eleven bodies have been recovered — three yesterday and eight today; 12 others are still missing.”

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s meteorological agency said the country’s wet season began in September and will continue until April, increasing the risk of flooding and heavy rainfall.

Reports indicate that another landslide caused by torrential rains in January in Pekalongan, Central Java, had killed at least 25 people.
