KABUL (Pajhwok): At a regular meeting of the Technical Committee of the Economic Commission, a proposal to transfer water from the Kunar River to the Darunta Dam was deemed eligible for approval.
The transfer of this water will help resolve water shortages affecting large areas of agricultural land in Nangarhar province.
In a statement, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Economic Affairs wrote the regular meeting of the Technical Committee of the Economic Commission was held yesterday.
It said that, following comprehensive discussions, the meeting approved in principle the proposal to convey water from the Kunar River to the Darunta Dam basin via the cultivable section of the Gambiri Plain route, and referred it to the Economic Commission for a final decision.
Transferring water from the Kunar River to the Darunta Dam would help address water shortages across much of Nangarhar’s agricultural land, the statement added.
DPMEA noted that the meeting discussed the fifth section (25 kilometers) of the Badghis Ring Road project, and tasked a special committee with conducting a comprehensive review of the project and presenting its report at the next meeting of the Technical Committee of the Economic Commission.
