ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Security forces have detained four individuals on charges of illegally excavating historical sites in Chakhansur district of northwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Tuesday.
Chakhansur District Administrative Chief Mawlawi Nooruddin Hamza stated that the individuals were arrested while carrying out unauthorised excavation at a historical site.
He added that a device, a vehicle and a shovel were seized from the detainees.
Meanwhile, Director of Information and Culture Mufti Habibullah Elham emphasised that protecting and preserving historical sites is the responsibility of everyone.
He stressed that, under a decree issued by the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), no one is permitted to damage or illegally excavate such locations.
“All provincial officials are cooperating with us in this regard,” he said. “We also call on the public to help safeguard their national, cultural and historical heritage, which is a national duty of every Afghan.”
