MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The process of land distribution to returning families has been launched in the capital of central Maidan Wardak province, officials announced on Sunday.
Governor Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa urged all officials to give due attention to returnees and prioritise the provision of basic services for them.
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Mawlawi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani said that, due to security and stability, refugees could now return to their homeland with peace of mind.
He said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had created an environment of brotherhood, service and care for returnees.
Haqqani added that the process was limited to refugees who were forcibly returned from neighbouring countries between October 2023 and 2025.
He explained that a new township was being established on 400-acres of land, comprising 1,200 residential plots, in Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital. The land distribution would be carried out based on A, B and C forms.
He said the process was being organised and closely monitored by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MoUDH).
He assured the township would be equipped with basic facilities, including a school, clinic, mosque and a drinking water supply network, to ensure returnee families have access to essential services.
Housing facilities, basic services and employment opportunities would be provided to returnees across the country under an order from the supreme leader of IEA, he concluded.
