KABUL (Pajhwok): The 17th edition of the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade-I cricket tournament began today (Monday) in southeastern Khost province, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced.
The tournament features 12 provincial cricket teams and will be held across two venues in Khost and Nangarhar provinces.
Organised in a one-day format, the competition comprises 33 matches over 22 days and will run until 26 January.
The 12 teams are divided into two groups of six, with each team playing the others in its group once. The top two teams from each group, based on points, will advance to the semi-finals.
This tournament is the second domestic cricket event of the new season and will be followed by several white-ball and red-ball competitions.
Top performers will be selected for the upcoming T20 tournament and the Mirwais Nika three-day cricket competition.
