Ghalibaf says US military sites would be ‘legitimate targets’ if Iran attacked

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has warned that regional US military bases and Israel would be considered “legitimate targets” if America were to strike the Islamic Republic.

Speaking at a meeting on Sunday, Ghalibaf stated: “In the event of any attack on Iran, the occupied territories and all American military centres, bases and ships in the region will be our legitimate targets.”

Referring to the US and its regional allies, he emphasised that they should not make the mistake of attacking Iran.

Meanwhile, Israel remains on high alert as US President Donald Trump considers options for military action against Iran amid ongoing protests in the country, Reuters reported, citing three Israeli sources familiar with the matter.

Violent demonstrations, sparked by economic difficulties and the sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial in several cities across Iran, entered their third week on Sunday.

Earlier, President Trump warned Iranian officials that the United States would intervene to support protesters if they were suppressed.
