Suspect held, 30kg of precious stones seized in Nangarhar

KABUL (Pajhwok): An individual has been arrested on charges of smuggling precious stones worth 30 million Afghanis in eastern Nangarhar province, police said on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the police headquarters, security forces, acting on intelligence, detained the suspect in Pachiragam district and seized 30 kilograms of beryl from him on Tuesday.

The statement added that the individual had attempted to transport the gemstones to Pakistan but was intercepted and apprehended by security forces. Preliminary estimates place the value of the seized gemstones at approximately 30 million Afghanis.

The police said the detainee will be handed over to judicial and legal authorities following initial investigations.
