UNODC vows cooperation in alternative livelihood, rehabilitation of addicts

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics urged the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to support alternative livelihoods for farmers and treatment for drug users during a Kabul meeting, with the UN agency pledging cooperation on these issues.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Abdul Rahman Munir, Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics, met with Polleak Ok Serei, UNODC Country Representative for Afghanistan, and Oliver Stolpe, the organization’s Regional Representative.

The statement said Munir described the fight against narcotics as one of the key priorities of the Islamic Emirate.

He called on UNODC to cooperate in providing alternative livelihood programs for farmers and in the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.

The ministry added that representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime pledged cooperation in these areas.
