US, Iran envoys expected to meet in Turkey over nuclear talks

KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi are expected to meet in Turkey on Friday to discuss a potential nuclear deal, media reports said on Tuesday.

Axios reported, citing two informed sources and a US official, that Witkoff and Araqchi, along with representatives from several Arab and Muslim countries, were scheduled to meet in Istanbul.

A fourth source familiar with the planning described a Friday meeting as the “best-case scenario” but cautioned that nothing would be finalised until it actually occurs.

The United States has not commented on the meeting so far.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was reviewing both the framework and details of the diplomatic process amid reports of a possible resumption of nuclear talks with Washington.

He stated: “What is clear is that at this stage we are examining some of the generalities and details related to advancing the diplomatic process. Naturally, regional countries have intensified their good offices. We are in the decision-making phase and considering all aspects of the issue. Time, of course, is important for us.”
