KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) says 14 Afghans have been released from prisons in Azerbaijan through the efforts of the Afghan embassy in Baku.
In a statement, the ministry expressed its appreciation to the Republic of Azerbaijan and the relevant authorities for their cooperation and humanitarian gesture in facilitating the release.
MoFA also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing follow-up efforts to resolve the cases of other Afghan detainees abroad. However, the statement did not clarify whether the released individuals have returned to Afghanistan.
Last Thursday, the ministry reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had released approximately 108 Afghans from its prisons on the occasion of the country’s National Day.
