KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Complaints Hearing (MoVV) has arrested a man in Surobi district of Kabul who claimed he could communicate with patients’ jinn through a mobile phone.
The ministry said the man had previously told Pajhwok Afghan News in a video programme that he used the mobile phone to talk to patients’ jinn in order to prevent them from causing harm.
The patients were believed to be possessed or influenced by jinn, which the arrested man claimed he could contact to protect them.
In a statement, the ministry said the detainee asserted that the jinn understood his conversations. It added that such claims are considered superstitions and are contrary to Islamic principles.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to reforming society, preventing superstition and false beliefs and stopping anyone from exploiting people’s faith or taking money under such pretenses.
According to the ministry, MoVV officers (Muhtaseebin) also arrested 24 alleged wizards in different parts of the country over the past week.
