4 Pakistani nationals arrested over alleged begging in Saudi Arabia

KABUL (Pajhwok): Four Pakistani nationals have been detained at Sialkot International Airport upon returning from Saudi Arabia over their alleged involvement in begging activities, according to a media report on Sunday.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the four passengers, including three women, on arrival from Saudi Arabia in connection with what it described as an organised international begging network, Dawn reported.

The suspects — identified as Shahnawaz, Shazia Bibi, Sonia and Farzana Bibi, all residents of Islamabad — were flagged by immigration authorities during routine checks due to suspicious travel records.

The report said that during questioning, the suspects confessed to being part of a coordinated network.

They allegedly revealed that an agent, Muhammad Siddiq Akbar, arranged their travel after charging each of them 250,000 Pakistani rupees.

It added that the group had travelled to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visas.

The FIA said it is coordinating with the Saudi Embassy to facilitate the arrest of the main suspect and dismantle the organised begging network operating between the two countries.
