Iran has no plan for new round of talks with US: Baghaei

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran says no decision has yet been made regarding a new round of negotiations with the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei made the remarks after US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that an American delegation had been sent to Islamabad for talks with Iran.

Tehran has previously said it would not send any negotiating team as long as what it described as a “maritime blockade” remains in place.

According to Tasnim news agency, Baghaei told a press conference on Monday: “At present, we have no decision regarding the next round of talks. At the same time as claiming diplomacy, the United States is taking actions that do not indicate seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic process.”

He added that Iran had faced what it called US “bad faith” since the early stages of the ceasefire agreement.

Commenting on reports of a US delegation travelling to Pakistan, he said: “Our basis is, naturally, that there is no trust in the United States—there is absolutely no trust.”

Baghaei said Iran would make its decisions based on its national interests and considerations.

He described the naval blockade and the reported attack on an Iranian commercial vessel as a “clear violation” of the ceasefire, calling the blockade itself an “act of aggression.”

He noted: “In such a situation, actions are not consistent with words, and this only deepens Iran’s distrust of the entire process. Iran will make the necessary decisions regarding the continuation of this path with careful consideration of national interests.”

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the US recently attacked an Iranian container ship, Tosca, in the Gulf of Oman while it was travelling from China to Iran.

Tasnim also reported that following the attack, Iranian forces targeted some US military vessels with drones.
