KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States will close its consulate in Peshawar due to security concerns, a media report said on Wednesday.
Reuters, citing a statement from the US State Department, reported that the consulate will be shut over concerns about the security of US diplomats.
The US Embassy in Islamabad will handle all diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Peshawar is the provincial capital, the State Department said.
It added: “This decision reflects our commitment to the safety of our diplomatic personnel and the efficient management of our resources.”
This comes after the US State Department on 13 March last year announced that, due to security concerns, non-essential staff and family members at US consulates in Lahore and Karachi should leave Pakistan.
