Nangarhar brick kiln union head arrested over price list violations

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The head of the brick kiln union has been arrested in eastern Nangarhar province for violating the official price list and selling bricks at inflated rates.

In a statement, the governor’s office said the action followed an inspection by the Price Control and Anti-Hoarding Commission, led by Mawlawi Abdullah Sajid, in the Shamshpur area of Surkh Rod district, where violations of the approved pricing were identified.

It said the official price for 1,000 first-grade bricks had been set at 3,300 afghanis, but the union chief and kiln owners were selling them above the approved rate.

The statement added that, under a recent decision by the commission, no one is permitted to sell bricks above the fixed price until the official pricing system is fully implemented.

It noted that legal action would be taken against the brick kiln union chief for directly or indirectly violating the official rate list.

Brick prices reportedly increased after thousands of residential plots were distributed in several townships, leading to improved construction activity and higher demand.
