KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Minister for Food and Drug at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Mawlawi Hamdullah Zahid and Russian health officials have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the food, medicine and healthcare products sectors.
In a statement, the MoPH said Zahid met with Russian deputy ministers, as well as directors of the Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations and the Authority for Registration and Control of Medical Equipment.
Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in food, medicines and healthcare products, including the signing of cooperation agreements, facilitation of investment, improvement of medicine import and export procedures, streamlining pharmaceutical registration and enhancing technical cooperation.
The meeting also covered visits to Russian pharmaceutical quality control laboratories, capacity building for Afghan medical staff and the use of Russian standards in drug regulation and quality control.
Zahid said the main purpose of the visit was to facilitate the import of standard and reasonably priced medicines for Afghan traders and to attract joint investment.
The statement added that both sides emphasised expanding sustainable cooperation, facilitating the export of safe and high-quality medicines and creating investment opportunities in the medicine and healthcare products sector.
