Senior Daesh leader killed in US–Nigeria joint operation, says Trump

KABUL (Pajhwok): Abu Bilal al-Minuki, described as the second-in-command of the Islamic State (IS) group, also known as Daesh, has been killed in a joint operation involving US and Nigerian forces, US President Donald Trump has said.

Trump announced the development on Truth Social, but did not provide further details about the timing, location, or nature of the operation, the BBC reported.

The Associated Press said the operation was carried out on Friday in Nigeria.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said al-Minuki, along with several of his deputies, was killed in an attack on his base in the Lake Chad region.

According to reports, Washington placed al-Minuki on its “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” list in 2023.
