Herat governor urges swift export of fresh fruits to prevent losses

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): With the start of the fresh fruit harvest season, the governor of western Herat has instructed relevant officials that fresh fruit must be exported without delay through customs and border crossings to prevent product wastage and financial losses to farmers and traders.

In a statement, the governor’s office said a meeting chaired by Sheikh Mawlana Islam Jar, Governor of Herat, was held with the participation of the head of Industry and Commerce, a representative of the counter-narcotics department, a customs official, the head of the Fresh Fruit Exporters Union and a number of traders to discuss improving the export process for fresh fruit.

Governor Islam Jar said relevant institutions must work jointly to remove administrative obstacles to fresh fruit exports, ensuring that products pass through customs and border points as quickly as possible to prevent spoilage.

He also proposed that traders transport their goods via the Khaf–Herat railway line to facilitate exports and reduce costs.

Meanwhile, the Fresh Fruit Exporters Union and traders expressed appreciation for the facilitation provided by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the export sector and put forward proposals to address existing challenges.

They also pledged cooperation and necessary measures to purchase wagons for transporting fresh fruit via the railway line.
