KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A young man has died after drowning in the waters of the Arghandab River in southern Kandahar province, local officials said on Friday.
Mawlawi Nazir Shakib, spokesperson for the 205 Al-Badr Corps, told Pajhwok that the victim was a resident of Musa Qala district in Helmand province and had traveled to Kandahar to visit friends.
He said the young man drowned on Thursday in the Arghandab River near the Bagh Pul area. His body was recovered on Friday by personnel of the 205 Al-Badr Corps.
Shakib noted that every year a number of young people and children lose their lives in rivers, dams and other water bodies while swimming, often due to negligence and lack of caution.
He urged families to educate children and young people about the dangers of deep and fast-flowing water in order to help prevent similar incidents.
