KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran is ready to assure the world that the Islamic Republic is not seeking nuclear weapons or regional instability, adding that Israel exploits every opportunity to perpetuate war and unrest.
He made the remarks during a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), IRNA reported.
“We are ready to assure the world that we are not seeking nuclear weapons and are not seeking unrest in the region,” he said.
“It is the Israeli regime that uses every opportunity to keep war and instability alive.”
He added: “During the time of our martyred Imam, we declared this and today we declare again that we are ready to assure the world that we are not seeking nuclear weapons or instability in the region. The one seeking to destabilise the region is the Israeli regime, which is pursuing the idea of Greater Israel.”
Pezeshkian, however, reiterated that Iranian negotiators “will never retreat from the country’s dignity and honour.”
The United States, Israel and several Western countries accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, an allegation Tehran has consistently denied.
The remarks come after US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that a peace agreement with Iran was close to finalisation — a deal that, according to him, could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iran rejected Trump’s claim regarding the strait, saying any potential agreement would leave control of the waterway in Tehran’s hands.
