KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan are among Tehran’s concerns, and it supports any measure aimed at reducing hostility and easing tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, in response to a question about the possibility of mediation between Kabul and Islamabad, said Iran’s current focus is on ending ongoing wars and regional tensions.

Baqaei added: “The issue of tensions between neighbours is certainly important for the Islamic Republic of Iran, and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan are among the concerns at all governmental and national levels.”

He stressed that Iran has repeatedly announced its readiness to support peaceful efforts between the two countries.

The spokesperson said: “We have repeatedly said that we will support any action that helps reduce tensions and eliminate hostility between Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

He did not provide details on any specific Iranian plan or new initiative for mediation between Kabul and Islamabad, but emphasized the importance of improving relations and reducing tensions between the neighbouring countries.
