KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a US airbase on Thursday in response to American strikes on Iranian military sites and drones near the Strait of Hormuz, a media report said.

IRNA reported, quoting a statement from the IRGC: “Following the aggression by the invading US army early this Thursday against a location on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas airport using aerial projectiles, the American airbase from where the aggression originated was targeted at 4:50am.”

The statement did not specify the exact location of the targeted airbase. However, hours before the statement was released, Kuwait’s General Staff of the Armed Forces announced that the country’s air defence systems were intercepting “hostile” missile and drone attacks.

Kuwait’s General Staff said: “Any sounds of explosions heard in the country were the result of air defence systems intercepting the threats.”

Earlier on Thursday, the US military shot down four Iranian attack drones and targeted a control station in the city of Bandar Abbas, where preparations were allegedly underway to launch another drone, Reuters reported, quoting a US official speaking on condition of anonymity.

Iran said the US strikes caused no damage.
