KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) says construction work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project is continuing rapidly in western Herat province, with 80 kilometres of pipeline having so far been laid.
Hamayoon Afghan, spokesman for the MoMP, wrote on his X account that construction work on the Herat phase of the TAPI project had reached nearly 52 percent completion and that 80 kilometres of pipeline had so far been laid.
He said that around 126 kilometres of route or corridor had been prepared for the pipeline, while 108 kilometres of access and monitoring roads had also been constructed.
He added that trenching work covering 51 kilometres had been completed for the pipeline and 36.3 kilometres of pipe had been buried underground.
Hamayoon noted that 72.3 kilometres of pipes had so far been delivered to the project site.
The TAPI pipeline extends approximately 1,800 kilometres, linking Turkmenistan to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan. Of this total, 816 kilometres run through Afghanistan.
