KABUL (Pajhwok): Mexico opened its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over South Africa in the tournament’s opening match on Thursday.

According to FIFA, the game was played at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, with Mexico—one of the three host nations—making a winning start to the competition.

Mexico produced the stronger performance throughout the match and took advantage of its chances to secure all three points and its first victory of the tournament.
