2 Afghans clinch bronze medals at Asian Kurash Championships

KABUL (Pajhwok): Two Afghan athletes have won bronze medals at the 15th Asian Kurash Championships, the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said on Sunday.

In a statement, the directorate said Mirajuddin Chakmar defeated his Indian opponent in the 66kg category but later lost to a Tajik competitor, securing a bronze medal.

It added that Zabihullah Ahsani beat a Turkmen opponent in the 81kg category before losing to an Uzbek competitor, also earning a bronze medal.

The statement said that Zahir Sarwari (100kg) and Abdul Manan Sadat (90kg) were scheduled to compete against their respective opponents on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Syed Mohammad Zia Dashti, president of the Afghanistan Kurash, Sambo and Traditional Wrestling Federation, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that both Chakmar and Ahsani had secured bronze medals for Afghanistan at the championships.

The 15th Asian Kurash Championships, featuring athletes from 28 countries, is being hosted by Tajikistan. Six Afghan athletes are participating in the event.
