Spin rout Saudi Arabia, Egypt beat New Zealand in World Cup

KABUL (Pajhwok): In ongoing matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Spain defeated Saudi Arabia, while Egypt secured a win against New Zealand. In other fixtures, Iran drew with Belgium and Uruguay shared points with Cape Verde.

The tournament is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Spain produced a dominant performance, registering a 4–0 victory over Saudi Arabia. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed by Mikel Oyarzabal, who struck twice in quick succession in the 21st and 24th minutes to extend the lead. Spain added a fourth goal in the 49th minute to seal a comprehensive win.

Iran and Belgium played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested match.

Uruguay and Cape Verde ended in a 2–2 draw. Cape Verde took the lead through Kevin Pina in the 21st minute, and Hélio Varela doubled the advantage in the 61st minute.

Uruguay responded with goals from Maxi Araújo in the 43rd minute and Agustín Canobbio in the 45th minute to level the match.

Egypt defeated New Zealand 3–1. Mostafa Ziko opened the scoring in the 58th minute, followed by Mohamed Salah in the 67th minute and Mahmoud Trézéguet in the 82nd minute. New Zealand’s only goal came early through Finn Surman in the 15th minute.
