KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has welcomed remarks by Russia’s Security Council secretary, who said the Afghan authorities have taken effective measures to curb the cultivation, production and trafficking of narcotics.
According to reports, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said the IEA had fulfilled its commitments in counter-narcotics efforts and implemented extensive measures to reduce drug trafficking.
IEA deputy spokesman Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat described the comments as positive, saying they reflect a decline in narcotics cultivation, production and trafficking in Afghanistan.
He said: “The reality is that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has carried out significant and unprecedented operations against narcotics. As a result of the Islamic Emirate’s decisive and serious efforts, narcotics cultivation and production have nearly reached zero.”
Fitrat added that efforts are continuing to completely eliminate narcotics from the country.
