KABUL (Pajhwok): Ireland completed a historic weekend by defeating India by one run in a dramatic second T20 at Stormont, sealing their first-ever T20 series win over the world champions.
After a 34-run victory in the opening match on Friday, Ireland produced another upset as Jai Moondra and Matthew Hollard took three wickets each to restrict India in a tense finish, according to the BBC.
India were left needing eight runs from the final two balls, but Harshit Rana was caught off the penultimate delivery to hand Ireland a famous win.
Earlier, Harry Tector top-scored with 53 on his 100th appearance as Ireland posted 154-8. Despite a brief rain interruption, India struggled early after Moondra dismissed key batters including Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer to leave the visitors reeling at 19-3.
A late fightback led by Tilak Varma kept India in the contest, but Ireland held their nerve in the closing overs to complete a landmark series triumph.
The result followed Ireland’s first-ever T20 win over India and their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup victory earlier in the weekend, marking one of the most successful periods in Irish cricket history.
