KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has said that by 2060, half of Afghanistan’s population is expected to live in urban areas.

The agency said in a post on X on Thursday that many cities in Afghanistan are not adequately prepared for the rapid pace of urbanisation.

“In Afghanistan, one in every two people is expected to live in cities by 2060; however, many cities are not ready for this rapid urbanisation,” UN-Habitat said.

It stressed that prioritising safe, inclusive and liveable urban environments is essential to ensure a decent quality of life for all citizens.
