KABUL (Pajhwok): Eight Buddhist monks were killed after a car driven by an 11-year-old child plowed into a religious procession in Mukdahan Province, northeastern Thailand.
According to Al Jazeera, the incident occurred on Thursday as about 30 Buddhist monks and a number of followers were taking part in a religious pilgrimage to Ubon Ratchathani Province.
The report said that, in addition to the eight fatalities, between 10 and 20 other people were injured.
Police said five monks died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to hospital. Four monks remain in critical condition, and 10 others sustained serious injuries.
According to reports, the child took the parents’ car without permission and lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the procession.
