KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that two American service members were killed, four others were wounded and one remains missing following Iranian missile and drone attacks on US positions in Jordan.
In a statement issued on Saturday, CENTCOM said the attacks took place on July 17 as US forces and their allies were defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone strikes.
The statement added that the four wounded service members were transported to hospitals in Jordan for medical treatment. They have since been discharged and returned to duty.
The announcement marks the first official acknowledgment by the United States of military casualties resulting from the latest wave of Iranian attacks, which resumed after the collapse of an agreement that had temporarily halted hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran.
