KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States says it has targeted Iran’s coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime capabilities and missile and drone storage sites for the eighth consecutive day of its military campaign.

Meanwhile, the Iranian army says it carried out strikes on US military facilities in Kuwait, targeting an ammunition depot at Camp Al Udairi as well as Patriot missile and air defence radar systems at Ali Al Salem Air Base.

In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest wave of strikes was conducted at 11:30pm Eastern Time on Saturday.

The command said US forces, during the eighth consecutive night of operations, hit Iranian coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime assets, and locations used for storing missiles and drones.

CENTCOM added that positions belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were also targeted. It said the sites were linked to attacks carried out against US troops in Jordan on July 17.

The command said more than 50,000 US military personnel were deployed across the Middle East and remained on high alert.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, citing the Iranian army’s public relations office, reported that two US military facilities in Kuwait were targeted with explosive drones during the 16th phase of Iran’s Operation Sa’eqeh.

The report said the targets included a US ammunition depot at Camp Al Udairi and Patriot missile and air defence radar systems at Ali Al Salem Air Base.

Tasnim described Camp Al Udairi as one of the US military’s key bases in the region, located around 104 kilometres from Iran’s border, and said it served as an important logistics and force reorganisation centre.

It added that disrupting operations at the base could affect US military support activities in the region.

Separately, CENTCOM said Iranian missile and drone attacks on US positions in Jordan had killed two US service members, wounded four others and left one soldier missing.
