KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Local residents in southeastern Paktia province have built and handed over a school building at a cost of more than one million afghanis.
The school was constructed and put into service in the Wuch Gharak area of Ahmadaba district.
Haji Sadiq Khaksar, a member of the committee overseeing the project, said the building for Mahmood Kala Middle School was constructed in accordance with education standards.
He said the building has eight classrooms and a well providing clean drinking water, with the total cost exceeding one million afghanis.
Khaksar added that the project’s finances were managed transparently by a six-member committee.
Another committee member, Dr Abdul Majid, said that despite the construction of the building, the school still faced shortages of teaching equipment, books, notebooks, stationery and professional teachers.
“We need everything from blackboards to books, notebooks and stationery. There is also a shortage of teachers here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Paktia Education Director Abdul Qayum Farooqi, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, praised local residents for supporting educational institutions and described the project as a good example of public cooperation.
He said local residents and people living outside the province had not only constructed school buildings, but had also provided computers, laboratories, classrooms, boundary walls, water facilities and electricity systems to some schools.
According to Farooqi, local people provided assistance worth around 17 million afghanis to education institutions during the first five months of the 1405 solar year alone.
He described the support as an important step towards strengthening the education sector.
A student at the school, Zainullah, said the school previously had no building, forcing students to face difficulties during rain, strong winds and hot weather.
