Iranian deputy ambassador, Herat governor discuss visa, trade issues

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Iran’s Deputy Ambassador to Afghanistan Seyed Hassan Mortazavi and Herat Governor Sheikh Maulana Islam Jar have discussed strengthening economic and trade ties and addressing transport-related issues between the two countries.

According to a statement from the Herat governor’s office, Iran’s consul general in Herat also attended the meeting, where the two sides discussed ways to expand economic cooperation and facilitate travel between Afghanistan and Iran.

The statement said Islam Jar stressed the need to facilitate visa issuance for citizens, increase trade through the Islam Qala border crossing and resolve transport challenges at the Dogharun and Islam Qala border crossings.

Mortazavi also stressed the expansion of bilateral cooperation and coordination to facilitate visa issuance and boost trade flows.

He said necessary measures would be taken to address existing trade and transit problems between the two countries, the statement added.
