KABUL (Pajhwok): Japanese authorities say at least four people have died and one is missing after heavy rains and flooding in Chiba Prefecture, while about 7,000 passengers have been stranded at Narita International Airport.
Reuters reported that heavy rainfall in Chiba, near Tokyo, caused flooding on roads and railway lines, power outages affecting thousands of households and widespread disruption to transport.
According to the report, some areas of Chiba received more than 360 millimetres of rain within 24 hours, forcing the closure of several highways.
Japanese authorities confirmed the deaths of four people and said one other person remained missing. Japan’s military forces have also been deployed to the affected areas to assist with rescue and relief operations.
Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power Company said that more than 22,000 households in Chiba remained without electricity as of Friday morning.
Reuters said transport disruptions around Narita Airport had stranded about 7,000 passengers. Japan Airlines said some flights could be delayed, but no cancellations were expected at the time.
