KABUL (Pajhwok): Fourteen people have been killed and 11 others injured in an explosion at a temporary storage facility for weapons and remnants of war near Sarmada in northern Syria’s Idlib province.

The explosion occurred on Wednesday on the Sarmada highway, according to SANA. The agency initially reported four deaths and 10 injuries before later raising the toll to 14 dead and 11 injured.

Syria’s Defence Ministry said 14 of those killed were its personnel, while more than 10 others, including civilians, were injured.

The ministry said specialised teams had secured the site and were dealing with unexploded ordnance. It added that an investigation was underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the blast.
