KABUL (Pajhwok): Several US military aircraft were damaged in an Iranian missile attack on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
CBS reported, citing people with direct knowledge of the incident, that the damage occurred during Iranian strikes overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, Sept. 8-9, on the airbase.
According to the report, roughly eight F-15 fighter jets sustained light damage but were later returned to service. An A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, also known as the Warthog, was hit and lost one of its wings.
Meanwhile, the Jordanian Armed Forces said on Wednesday that Iran had launched 20 ballistic missiles toward Jordanian territory. Eighteen were intercepted and destroyed, while the other two landed in uninhabited areas. Jordanian officials said the attack caused no casualties.
A US official had earlier said the Iranian attacks in Jordan were “ineffective” and that US personnel were safe. However, the latest CBS report indicates that several US military aircraft were damaged in the strikes.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had earlier said it targeted the US military presence at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base with ballistic missiles.
