KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology says the National Internet Exchange of Afghanistan (NIXA) project, costing nearly 10 million afghanis, is ready for operation.
The project aims to manage domestic Internet traffic, strengthen information security and reduce reliance on international routes.
In a statement, the ministry said the project was designed and implemented by its General Directorate of Information Technology Infrastructure.
According to the ministry, the project has established key infrastructure for the domestic exchange of Internet traffic, enabling more effective traffic management, improved communication quality and speed, and enhanced information security.
The ministry said the center will allow domestic traffic to be exchanged through an internal gateway rather than being routed through various international paths, providing greater efficiency and security for telecommunications networks, Internet service providers and other sectors.
The statement said equipment, systems and technical services worth nearly 10 million afghanis had been procured for the project.
Firewalls, servers, a backup system, virtualization systems, Internet traffic analysis systems and log-management systems are among the key components of the project.
The ministry said the new infrastructure also provides capacity for local hosting of websites, email, shared hosting and other digital services.
According to the ministry, this capacity could help meet the needs of government institutions, educational organizations and the private sector.
The ministry described the launch of the NIXA project as a step toward strengthening Internet infrastructure, improving domestic traffic management, expanding digital services and reinforcing digital sovereignty in Afghanistan.
