KABUL (Pajhwok): A Nigerian military aircraft crashed in southwestern Nigeria, killing all 32 people on board, including 25 passengers and seven crew members, a media report said Tuesday.
Reuters reported that the military aircraft crashed on Monday while flying from Benin City to Lagos in Ondo State.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu confirmed that there were no survivors in the crash. Expressing his “profound sadness,” he offered condolences to the families of the victims.
Tinubu also ordered the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the Air Force ATR-42 aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos when air traffic controllers lost contact with it at 8:13am GMT on Monday.
The wreckage was later located near the coastal town of Igbokoda, where search and rescue teams were deployed.
The crash was one of the deadliest air disasters in Nigeria in recent years.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, and an investigation is underway.
