KABUL (Pajhwok): Five people have been killed in a US strike on a vessel suspected of drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the US military has said.
According to Reuters, the US Southern Command said on Tuesday (27 October) that US forces had carried out a lethal strike on a speedboat operating along established drug-trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific.
In a post on the social media platform X, the command said the operation was based on what it described as “confirmed intelligence” indicating that the vessel was actively involved in drug trafficking. It provided no further details.
The command described the five people killed in the strike as “narco-terrorists” but did not disclose their identities or provide evidence of the vessel’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
US President Donald Trump’s administration has previously said that vessels targeted in US military operations since September 2025 had been transporting narcotics.
According to Reuters, US strikes on vessels in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific have killed more than 230 people.
Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and independent United Nations experts have described the strikes as unlawful extrajudicial killings. The American Civil Liberties Union has also criticised the Trump administration’s claims about those targeted, calling them “unsubstantiated, fear-mongering claims”.
