KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that any threat from the United States or Israel would face an immediate response, as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent a return to full-scale war, according to Associated Press.

Khamenei said “any kind and level of threat” should be met with an immediate response without geographical limits, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported.

Iranian state media said Khamenei made the remarks during a meeting with military commanders. He also called for an updated list of potential US and Israeli targets.

Khamenei, who has not appeared publicly since the war began with US and Israeli strikes on February 28, became Iran’s supreme leader after the opening attacks killed his father.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a new proposal had been reached with mediators that could allow the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within two days.

He said Iranian diplomats were in Qatar for discussions on the proposal.

Last month, Araghchi proposed reopening the strategic waterway within a week if the United States lifted its blockade of Iranian ports, released frozen Iranian assets and waived sanctions on Iranian oil sales, among other conditions. The proposal was rejected.

In an interview with Qatar-based Al Jazeera television, Araghchi said Iran had no plans to meet US officials but described recent American efforts towards “broader dialogue” as a positive step.

He said a decision on whether negotiations would be direct or indirect would be made once Washington agreed to Iran’s conditions.
